BMG strengthens industrial valve solutions in Africa through its InterApp partnership

BMG’s InterApp butterfly valve portfolio provides different material and construction options for applications ranging from corrosive chemical handling to general industrial flow control. The Bianca, Desponia and Desponia Plus ranges form part of the company’s comprehensive range that includes ball valves, check valves and actuation equipment.

“Matching the valve to the process is central to reliable operation,” explains Susan Victor, Sales Manager, BMG’s Fluid Technology division. “Pressure, temperature and compatibility with the medium determine the appropriate configuration, while flow requirements, installation space and actuation methods also influence selection. Incorrect choices can lead to premature wear, leakage and production interruptions.

“Our approach considers the customer’s operating environment and maintenance requirements, with attention to long-term value as well as the initial purchase price. Correct selection, installation and maintenance contribute to plant availability and equipment service life, particularly where continuous operation makes unplanned shutdowns costly.”

For corrosive chemicals and aggressive process media, the Bianca butterfly valve incorporates a PTFE liner and PFA-coated disc. Chemical resistance and dependable shut-off are key requirements in its typical applications, which include chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and water treatment.

The Desponia range caters for general industrial applications, including mining, water treatment, HVAC systems and sugar processing. It is also suitable for slurry-handling duties, subject to the selected materials and operating conditions.

Desponia valves – available from BMG in wafer and lug configurations – incorporate elastomer liners and a choice of disc and body materials to suit different process requirements. Their compact construction, low operating torque and quarter-turn operation, are useful where space and maintenance access are important considerations.

The Desponia Plus range is recommended for more demanding industrial applications and automated valve systems. Valve selection depends on the operating conditions and the compatibility of its materials with the process medium.

Other valve types fulfil distinct functions within the process. InterApp ball valves provide fast quarter-turn operation and effective shut-off for water, oil, compressed air and compatible process fluids. Check valves prevent reverse flow, helping to protect pumps, pipelines and associated equipment.

Manual, pneumatic and electric actuation options allow valves to be configured according to the application. Automated configurations can be integrated into industrial process-control systems for remote operation and improved operational control. Associated components include limit switches, position indicators and valve liners.

As the official South African distributor of Swiss-based InterApp, BMG provides local application guidance through its Fluid Technology team. The team considers operating pressure, temperature, media compatibility and flow requirements, as well as suitable materials of construction and the required actuation method.

The Interapp range is designed for use in many industries, including mining, chemical processing, water and wastewater treatment. These valves are also suitable for food and beverage production, sugar processing, pulp and paper, power generation and general manufacturing.
