New backhoe loaders set benchmark for productivity, comfort and global compliance

New to HPE Africa’s range of high-performance Hyundai wheel loaders, excavators, motor graders and TLB’s, is the HB640 backhoe loaders series.

Hyundai’s new HB640 backhoe loaders have been developed to deliver high productivity, reliable performance and improved operator comfort in demanding applications, including construction, agriculture, earthmoving and utility industries.

The Hyundai HB640 backhoe loader series is available from HPE Africa, with Kirloskar engines, developed for durability, fuel efficiency and compliance with global emission standards. The Hyundai HB640 backhoe loader comes in a side shift configuration.

The HB640 incorporates a robust driveline with Carraro transmission and axles, alongside Casappa pumps and Walvoil valves, ensuring efficient power delivery and reliable hydraulics.

Operator comfort and efficiency are enhanced by a new cabin design. ROPS/FOPS certification, wide curved glass for enhanced visibility, ergonomic layout of controls and a fully adjustable seat reduce fatigue and improve safety. Additional features, integrated LED lighting, contribute to a more productive working environment.

Hydraulic performance is a key strength of the HB640 series. The system delivers 145 LPM at 2,200 rpm, with a relief pressure of 230 bar, operating through a sectional valve arrangement. Smart hydraulic functions include selectable Power and Eco modes, providing faster cycle times for backhoe operations and improved fuel efficiency during loader applications. Optional telescopic dipper arms extend digging depth to 5.93 m, while breakout forces reach 6,320 kgf on the bucket and 3,580 kgf on the dipper.

The loader linkage features a parallel-lift design for precise control and consistent bucket angles throughout the lifting range. Standard bucket capacities are 1.26 m³ for the loader and 0.22 m³ for the backhoe, with optional multi-purpose and high-volume attachments available. Quick hitch systems enable faster changes between buckets, breakers, forks and other specialised tools.

Mobility is enhanced with selectable four-wheel drive and optional Ride Control, which further stabilise machine performance over rough terrain, reducing spillage and cycle times, while extending component life.

Ease of service has been prioritised, with a tilt-up engine hood, ground-level access to filters and grease points, visible hydraulic oil gauges and an integrated safety bar system for secure maintenance. A single-layer cooling system simplifies cleaning and improves thermal efficiency.

The HB640 backhoe loader is available in side-shift, with multiple trim levels and options, allowing customers to tailor specifications for different operating environments.
